Extraction Theory clarification...?

Ive used the search engine on multiple platforms, and I cannot find a definitive answer, so please, if there is a resource someone could direct me to it would be appreciated. If not, then here we go

Ok, first question: is DCM an acceptable solvent for meth freebase? Because I have Lab grade DCM and hardware store toluene and if I can avoid having to double distill a gallon of toluene I'd like to.

next: I notice while performing aqueous washes on organic layer that my wash water will do two things
A) the pH of the wash water will start high (pH 13+) but drop with each subsequent wash
B)My wash water will start to take on the smell of meth FB.

now, I read somewhere that Fb WILL go into aqueous layer if your pH goes too low, but how do I prevent this? If I add NaOH, I wind up with a third thin layer at the interface that is difficult to separate.

Please, anyone? Like I'm a fucking five year old?

BathtubChemistryI use DCM for meth fb extraction and Im happy with it about PH over 7 dont need to worry so much about if it goes to water it wont do it anyway you will extract water layer for remaining fb but is not about PH issue.
Fb layer is completely separated at ph 12-13 even you see some before.

(Not trying to argue either, sometimes it just takes me a few rounds to assimilate something that's contrary to my previous understanding)
