2-(2-chlorophenyl)-2-nitrocyclohexanone can be converted to ketamine. I have seen vendors offering it.

Through the Eschweiler–Clarke reaction, norketamine was reacted with formaldehyde and formic acid to synthesize ketamine; the advantages of this process are a short duration of reaction and the requirement of small amounts of chemicals."

but I havent seen noone talking about this. Seems pretty straight forward.

Perhaps I am wrong, but I wonder if formamide + formic acid could be used, instead of formadelhyde + formic acid

What are the approximate costs for the syntesis for 1 kg?
I'm asking because I've looked around at the Chinese sellers and the reagents seem too expensive to me.
Because locally I can get 1kg ketamine for 6700 USD.

Lokitastezn, formic acid and formaldehyde shouldn't be more than 1k for a kg (excluding the nitro precursor) .I have found a seller on alibaba selling the nitro precursor for 500gr / 900USD. but if the price is 6.7usd/gr, i would say forget it. unless you want to work in really large scale which requires importing tens or hundreds of kilos of that precursor from china. in the country I live, the price of clean racemic k is around 50-40 USD/gr, and still I wouldn't do it.
and even if i was, I wouldn't choose this route. this route has low yields and produces a tertiary amine impurity.

Hello, I know that it's possible but I haven't seen synthesis write-up data. So far as formamide + formic acid concerned, formamide wont work as formic acid and protonate oxygen of nitro group.

Yes its possible, we have done this exact synth. Yeilds not very impressive. I suggest using sodium borohydride with activated charcoal to reduce the nitro, better yields. Then follow up with formic acid, formaldahyde. We got 50% yield. The precurser you mention is way over priced. Other methods are more efficiant and cheaper.
