Is there a good synthesis for morphine hcl from raw opium?

Has anyone successfully extracted morphine hcl from raw opium using the slaked lime and ammonium hydroxide? If so, how would a small scale synthesis be performed?

but that depends I guess on what your final product is your going for but 1 part lime in 10 parts water for 4 parts of opium filter off and treat 3 parts water to 1 part opium filter heated to boiling and precip your morphine out with ammonium chloride. After cooling filter and wash precip and purify with HCl and crystallize

Thank you for the response. The final product I am shooting for would be a small bit of morphine hcl to be used orally or nasally..
So the old traditional way with calcium hydroxide and ammonium chloride is probably the most effective and user friendly way to obtain said morphine...
With the 'recipe' you outlined, would it be say scalable like this:
1g lime in 10g/ml water and 4g opium?
Is this mixture heated or just stirred until all is dissolved? Then filter this mixture...
This is where I am confused..so you take the filtered solution, bring to a boil (for how long?) and treat with ammonium chloride..
I dont understand 3 parts water to 1 part opium filter. Add more water to original filtered liquid that has been treated with the calcium hydroxide (lime)? And also, when precip out the morphine, there is a certain ph one should shoot for rite? or perhaps it is more of a ratio thing? 3 parts water, 1 part opium, 1part ammonium chloride?

So then, after one has the precipitated out solid morphine base, washed it with water and dried, then how to convert it to morphine hcl? Is it soluble in a non polar such as xylene or toluene, where one could bubble hcl gas through to obtain the hcl form?

My bad.. it’s parts water to parts opium and then filter .. and yes very soluble in most np solvents slightly less with benzene-but ail mix but sounds good but not necessary to bubble or dissolve more as u have your chloride added from the ammonium chloride right

U want to heat that mixture of lime and extract and should b serration line off good stuff almost white upper layer and below is trash.. take your good separated layer and heat with your ammonium chloride to almost boiling then let cool and your morphine hcl should have precipped out

Thanks for you reply..So when we take our good almost white upper layer off, bring to almost boiling then let cool, how much ammonium chloride should be added? Should it be added until a ph of 8 or 9 is reached..Sorry for the novice questions!

Think it was 120g to every Kilo opium but yea man sounds like u got it.. are u In process now or just planning it out.? Either way GL

T 3In process of planning it out..have a good amount of poppy straw and am slowly extracting the plant mass..it's a slow process due to the low temp but i don't want to destroy any of the alkaloids! My plan is to try the process on some concentrated juice and see what happens..

To quicken process make sure your in a cool or cold room with that light breeze from oscillating fan … And O so u r making a Laudanum type tincture, good stuff man.
